You can't click a site these days without reading about the power of social media--from marketing, to sales, to college campuses. The same power goes for job seekers. But they just don't know it. Yet.
As I close in on 5,000 followers on Twitter, I am excited to have a great deal of followers, and varied ones at that. But I'm not feeling so social. Don't get me wrong--I love a good debate, a good party, and a bevy of contacts. And there are plenty of colleagues in the HR/recruiting space who network like crazy online. But I'm not hearing as much from job seekers.
I wonder if Twitter has become a haven for experts--easier to debate topics of interest with people who already understand the topic at the same level. Or a way to find new experts with a listen and learn mentality? With the 24/7 cycle of news and information, there's now so much choice, so many ways to get advice and learn.
So job seekers: I want to know where you find advice. Give me 5 minutes (I promise that's all it will take) so I can better learn how you want help. Are job search experts overdoing it? Underdoing it? Covering specific topics ad nauseum? Oh, and I want to know why you hate job searching. In one sentence.
Take the survey now. And thanks--more to come here about how we can better help you.
PS: Keep an eye on twitter for #whyihatejobsearching where I can track your job search hating one-liners.
